In accordance with the RVP, we have published within the Blue Series Mathematics and its Applications 1–5 the publication Mathematics and its Applications 5, which retains everything original from the original Prodos textbooks. The entire Blue Series Mathematics and its Applications for the first stage of primary school meets the requirements of the RVP, leads to expected outcomes, and develops key competencies. Interdisciplinary connections are emphasized, particularly with the Czech language and literature and the thematic areas of the complete set Human and His World. The three-part title Mathematics and its Applications 5 will not be unfamiliar to you in many ways; however, its individual parts are entirely practically oriented to fulfill the expected outcomes so that they help you develop key competencies in children as best as possible according to the RVP requirements. The curriculum will not be an abstract model for children but will allow them direct practical application. Only this will enable children to understand basic mathematical relationships in the world around us and to develop and meaningfully and purposefully use them in everyday life. The textbook guides students through a thoughtfully composed set of practical tasks – they are functionally connected with the explanation, which often complements them, allowing children to understand many things on their own even before they learn them from the explanation.
