Description
The story of Elizabeth BÁTHORY, faithfully described by Jožo Nižnánsky in the novel THE LADY OF ČACHTICE, takes place on the border of the 16th and 17th centuries and draws from real events. The plot is filled not only with interesting and period facts but is primarily a thrilling, almost detective-like read. The driving force of the story is the endless, pathological desire of the lady of Čachtice to be young and beautiful at any cost. This desire was the cause of the ruin of many innocent young girls' lives. It is a remarkable horror written at a time when this term did not yet exist in the literary vocabulary. The novel truthfully captures the sad times when the life of a serf had no value. And as is often the case, the cruel lady of Čachtice was aided by human creatures like Fick, who were bound to her by blind obedience out of fear. The reader will experience, over 512 pages, not only thrilling adventures but also selfless love, hatred, betrayal, disappointment, and envy.
