Description

The story of a brave woman who did not hesitate to confront the changed and, in many ways, new conditions both at home and in the United States, where she surprisingly encountered modern slavery. This book engagingly and truthfully tells the story of an ordinary Czech woman who always wanted to live honestly and according to the rules in a communist regime and, of course, after the revolution, in changed conditions as an entrepreneur. When her thriving business was destroyed by large retail chains, she decided to try her luck at Walmart in New Orleans, USA, as an ordinary cleaner. Her flight to the USA was interesting – it was the first time she flew alone, even though she only knew "yes" and "how are you" in English besides greetings. No one will probably believe it, but in America, she felt like she was in modern slavery. However, getting back from slave conditions and from dangerous Czech "vajzrs" was nearly impossible. When she finally managed to escape, she got lost and ended up in the wild American nature, where it was truly a matter of life and death. The main character, Marta, is occasionally awakened from her peaceful sleep by bad memories. Therefore, she would prefer to forget this period.
