Description

This Czech-language humorous novel follows Evžen Pračka, a very shy and awkward man whose name already hints at the amusing coincidences he encounters every day. A 33-year-old primary-school teacher with little experience of the opposite sex, he is still single and longs for both a female partner and a family. Unable to meet someone in the usual way, he turns to personal advertisements, encountering a series of interesting and sometimes unusual women and experiencing situations that might discourage anyone from continuing the search for love. Evžen nevertheless continues to believe that he will find the right woman. He lives in Prague, and his detailed, credible descriptions might give readers the impression that living in Prague or with Czech women is somewhat strange. This is not always the case: although the experiences and situations are based on reality, the descriptions of places, people and events are heightened. Readers are left to form their own opinions of the characters and situations, while all names and descriptions of people remain fictional.
