Description
The poetess arrives in the New World as a poetess, bringing some things with her and having others catch up with her on her journey. The poetry reading tour through the eastern and central parts of the United States serves as a springboard for unfolding many dramatic situations and reflections related to the culturally different — yet in many ways similar — nature of both continents and their inhabitants, as well as to the question of what the nature of the writing craft is. The book alternates between verses in Czech and English, records or fabrications of dialogues, excerpts from chronicles of the first arrivals and settlers, descriptions of the Czech village in Cedar Rapids, and visits to the Museum of Modern Art in New York. However, this is neither a travelogue nor a report; despite all illusions of reality, we are in the realm of fiction: we follow a story that is suddenly interrupted by death and simultaneously tells of the end of a romantic relationship. The book is carried by a combination of intellectual reflection and confession, objectivity and intimacy, immediacy and distance.
