This Czech-language textbook is part of a comprehensive series of biology textbooks and workbooks prepared according to the Framework Educational Programme for Basic Education. It is intended for pupils with special educational needs, specifically those with mild intellectual disabilities, and the individual materials can be used in any year of the second stage of primary school in accordance with the relevant school and individual educational programmes. General Biology covers the origins of life on Earth; the composition and structure of living systems, including cells, tissues, reproduction and the basics of heredity; the classification of organisms, specifically bacteria, viruses, yeasts, moulds, algae, lichens, protozoa and cnidarians; and the evolution and classification of plants and animals. The text is accompanied by numerous photographs and clear illustrations by academic painter Andrea Korbelářová. Additional material is marked with a light tint, and each chapter ends with questions and exercises for practising and reinforcing the subject matter, including ideas for practical activities. The textbook has valid Ministry of Education approval for inclusion in the list of textbooks for basic education as part of the complete series for the biology subject in the People and Nature educational area.
