Description
Prose writer Milan Čechura is no newcomer to the Czech literary scene; this collection of short stories and essays is already the eighth entry in his independent work. The Plzeň author (born in 1949 in Ústí nad Labem) has published two titles with NAVA so far – in 2013, 'Malý nepřítel' and three years earlier, 'Dědečkárna'. While in the first of these books the author showcased his talent for short horror stories, the second is very close in genre to the new release 'Povid(f)ej'. Milan Čechura again dons the coat of a humorist, a storyteller of texts with a witty plot and often an unexpected resolution. In the introduction to this book, the 'old literary dog', as Čechura calls himself, expresses his wish that readers who delve into his stories and essays experience only pleasant feelings. 'There are plenty of things around us that evoke unpleasant or silly feelings,' the author adds. This is hard to disagree with. Although the book 'Povid(f)ej' is short in length, that does not prevent Milan Čechura's expressed wish from being fulfilled.
