Description
Filokalia was created from the 4th to the 15th century and resulted in a collection of texts that is key to understanding Orthodoxy. The authors of the texts were monks, and their purpose was to encourage spiritual life, love for goodness, and beauty. Filokalia thus reflects Eastern religious interpretation of the Bible more than any other text; it emphasizes mystical and contemplative practice and helps engage all our senses during worship and prayer. The book is a selection of seven themes from a five-volume work and is supplemented with interpretative passages. It offers a very valuable introduction to the tradition of Eastern Christian religion.
