Description
Instead of preparing for his upcoming wedding, Penn Cage, a former prosecutor and now the mayor of Natchez, Mississippi, must deal with unexpected troubles. His father, a paragon of virtue, a war hero, and beloved doctor Tom Cage, is accused of murdering an African American nurse he worked with in the tumultuous sixties. Penn is determined to help him, but his father boycotts his efforts. Instead of defending himself, he remains silent. What is he trying to hide? Was there something more than just a professional relationship between him and his nurse? And how does the ultra-secret brutal offshoot of the Ku Klux Klan, known as the Double Eagles, connected to the most powerful men in the state, fit into all of this? Together with a local journalist who has dedicated his life to solving unsolved murders from the sixties, and his fiancée Caitlin Masters, Penn embarks on a search that takes him deep into the past - and dark, dangerous secrets that were meant to stay buried begin to surface...
