Description
Do you know congruent and similar transformations? Perhaps you do, but affine and projective transformations are less familiar. This book by the author of the well-known publication The Art of Seeing in Mathematics informs about ten basic transformations in the plane and, in an unusual way, connects analytical and synthetic approaches to this issue within the available literature in our country. The explanation is based on the knowledge and experience of a high school student, summarizing and deepening their understanding of congruent and similar transformations. It then introduces affine and projective transformations of the plane and, for comparison, circular inversion. The strengths of the publication are its many inspirations from nature and seemingly remote fields of human activity. They provide stimuli that connect with geometry and whose similarities we often do not realize. The book is divided into 14 chapters, two of which are intermezzos (the language of geometry, covering the plane). A collection of problems, which is part of the publication, serves for independent contemplation of the material.
