Description

This volume continues from the previous part. The first section describes the consequences of the Hussite revolution and, in broad European contexts, presents the dramatic continuation of the Hussite struggle led by Jiří Poděbradský. It focuses on both the Calixtine and Catholic components of the population of the crown lands. The second part deals with the emergence and the initial period of the existence of the Czech estates state up to the rise of the Habsburgs, emphasizing the post-war economic recovery and the political rivalry between royal towns and the nobility. Comprehensive chapters are dedicated to the culture of the Hussite era, the beginnings of humanism, and religious life. The issues of art history of the 'long' 15th century have been insightfully addressed by Milena Bartlová.
