Ondřej Sekora (1899–1967) was a significant illustrator and creator of children's books, whose most famous characters are still known to virtually every small child today. At the same time, he left an unmistakable mark on the history of Czech journalism, sports, theater, audiovisual media, and comics, and he generally ranks among the most important creators of domestic popular culture in the first half of the twentieth century. This lavish monograph is divided into twelve chapters that thoroughly examine the various areas of Sekora's extensive creative activities. Thanks to this broad approach, as well as access to Sekora's currently processed archive and collaboration with several institutions that hold Sekora's collections, the publication offers a much more comprehensive view of Sekora's life and work than has previously been available for this seemingly well-known creator. The monograph is accompanied by rich visual material; many originals and artifacts that have not yet been known to the wider public are reproduced, including his private painting works and study drawings.
