Description
This selection from the poetic works of Milan Vrabec (1958–1979) contains about a third of the extent of his literary legacy. It is also the very first book edition of this author's work, who published only a little in samizdat during his short life. Milan Vrabec was the most prominent creative personality of a group of poets, artists, and musicians, mostly from Prague's Košíře, who in the late 1970s, some not even twenty years old, created a common platform for themselves in the anthologies "HHCH" (reportedly a cipher for the words "Hnutí Humbuk Co? Hovnajs"), of which they published a total of seven between 1978 and 1982. This circle soon became close to the underground community around the group Plastic People of the Universe, that is, what remained of it at the turn of the 70s and 80s. The selection is entirely the work of Martin Machovec, the organizer of this volume, based on his subjective preferences, but in the belief that it will be a representative selection that ensures Milan Vrabec's rightful place in the contexts of a/ Czech underground poetry, b/ that segment of Czech literature, especially poetry, which since the early 60s has been oriented under the influence of the poets of the American Beat Generation, c/ Czech surrealism.
