Description
The novella Window to the South (Su?urglugginn, 2012) loosely follows the Book about the River Sandá (Kalich, 2013). The narrative unfolds chronologically over four seasons. The main character finds himself in a kind of voluntary exile in the countryside, specifically near a fishing village in western Iceland. The fragmented text once again reflects the painful struggle for artistic creation. The characters in the book that the main character is working on stubbornly resist the author's attempts to breathe life into them, and even an old Olivetti typewriter speaks of obedience. The writer also struggles to form relationships with real people. An urgent feeling of emptiness mixes with precise observations of the details of the landscape and everyday life in the countryside, as well as the peculiar phenomena in the village and its surroundings.
