Description
Ilja Budrajskis’s book is a compelling mosaic of essays, studies and reflections mapping the history, place, tradition and role of the dissident movement in modern Soviet and Russian history. It offers much more than an overview of dissident movements and groups and their mostly unsuccessful attempts to improve the social and political climate, particularly in the Soviet Union. It also presents a picture of more than a century of Russian and Soviet history, marked by strong recurring cycles. Most of these dissident movements had strongly left-wing origins and largely sought to preserve in crystal-clear form left-wing ideals that were gradually redefined in the interests of the ruling elites. The contents are in Czech.
