Description
This fourth volume of Karel Kosík’s collected works contains articles, essays, interviews and shorter occasional texts from 1955 to 1969. The first part brings together texts through which Kosík entered debates on Marxism, the application of Marxist methods and the negative aspects of socialism. He presents his concept of dialectics, based on Hegel and Lukács, and outlines his own version of Marxist theory, which he understands as social criticism. The second part consists of articles applying dialectics to specific phenomena in art and culture. In analyses of works by Hemingway, Kafka and Hašek, Kosík develops reflections on the social role of culture, politics, humanism and related subjects. The volume presents Karel Kosík as a public intellectual who addressed both the current issues of his time and timeless questions of human existence. The contents are in Czech.
