This Slovak-language novel follows two stories that gradually intertwine. When the police in Buckeye City, America, receive a disturbing letter threatening the deaths of fourteen people as penance for the pointless death of an innocent man, Detective Izzy Jaynes has no idea what to make of it. As her investigation progresses, she realizes that the letter’s author is deadly serious and turns to Holly Gibney for help. Meanwhile, controversial and provocative women’s rights activist Kate McKay sets out on a tour across the United States. Her lecture halls fill with supporters and opponents alike, and someone hostile to gender equality begins attacking Kate and her events. At first there are no victims, but as the stalker grows bolder, Kate needs personal protection. Holly, whom Kate hires, faces a stubborn employer and an opponent prepared to do anything. The two stories run alongside each other, intertwine and finally culminate in a chilling yet brilliant finale featuring a fascinating cast of familiar and new characters, including gospel singer Sista Bessie and an unforgettable villain addicted to murder.
