Description
This Slovak-language novel follows Mišo, an adopted boy who, as an adult, is wrongly imprisoned in Spain. Accused of causing bodily harm, he is serving a sentence of several years. In letters to his parents, mostly addressed to his mother, he describes prison conditions and the problems he faces there, while recalling the past. Through the author’s narrative, alternating with Mišo’s letters, we gradually learn how difficulties in raising him and the troubles he repeatedly became entangled in during childhood, and especially adolescence, affected the lives of the entire family and the marriage of his adoptive parents, Klára and Karol. At the centre of the story is his relationship with his mother.
