Description

The story of an eight-year-old boy whose parents did not return from a visit to Vienna back behind the Iron Curtain, and therefore he grows up with his grandparents. He lives surrounded by his childhood and adult friends and enemies in the almost magical environment of Stará Ves, an outwardly idyllic border village. The plot takes place in the mid-1960s, and the main character experiences his childhood adventures, engages in typical boyish mischief, and along the way learns something about life, its beauty, and its burdens. The fact that his parents are relatively close, yet hopelessly far away, adds an interesting paradox to the boy's story, which he ultimately decides to resolve as radically as he can in his childish naivety. The premiere of the film of the same name, directed by Juraj Nvota, will be this winter.
