The main character Jan enjoys traveling around Europe. He always finds a simple, unskilled job in each place to make a living, aiming to get to know the spirit of the city and, above all, to experience something. He loves those beginnings when everything is new and unknown, he enjoys living in the moment, drinking, switching girls, and collecting interesting experiences. This time he settles in Berlin, a trendy city attracting people from all over the world. Jan revels in the intoxication of the yet unknown city, but even here, after a while, he encounters a phenomenon that follows him on his travels – he reflects on his behavior as harmful to himself. Therefore, he embarks on a journey of abstinence and discipline. However, this is not easy for him at all. Recognizing that an individual is moving in a certain inappropriate rhythm is one thing; achieving the desired change is another. Will he succeed? The majority of the story takes place on the streets of Berlin, and a multitude of different characters and micro-stories join the basic line, of which the hero is either a part or a fascinated observer. In these specific slices of everyday life, the overall pre-crisis mood of the Western metropolis is reflected, and in a more general layer, the contradiction between pleasure and abstinence, chaos and order in the psychology of the individual is also mirrored.
