This Czech-language fantasy novel welcomes readers to the City of Dreams, a perfect place governed by the all-knowing artificial intelligence Omnicloud, where everyone lives in safety, prosperity and good health. Almost everyone, that is. Fifteen-year-old Révi has suffered from an incurable illness since birth, and it has one very unusual side effect: unlike the other inhabitants of the City, he has not lost the ability to dream at night. When he begins having remarkably vivid dreams in which a mysterious dark-haired girl asks him to help a forgotten world beyond the City’s Wall, Révi initially takes them lightly. Soon afterward, however, Omnicloud announces the exact opposite: the Wall is collapsing, and the City of Dreams is threatened with an attack by people from the Wilds. Where does the truth lie? Can a person trust their dreams, or should they rely on a perfectly functioning system that has never failed? The story asks why it is important never to stop dreaming, and even more important never to stop staying alert.
