Description
This Czech-language fantasy novel by Sarah Beth Durst returns to the world of The Little Shop of Magic, this time taking place on a remote island filled with singing flowers, ancient secrets and the scent of honey cakes. Librarian Terla Perna once recklessly broke the law by using magic to create a friend for herself, an intelligent plant. As punishment, she was turned into a wooden statue and placed in the northern reading room of Alysia’s Imperial Library as a warning. Her story might have ended there, but one day she awakens, hungry and freezing, in the snowy landscape of an almost deserted island filled with hundreds of magical greenhouses. The island’s only inhabitant is Florian, a gruff gardener who surprisingly offers her clean clothes, fresh honey cakes and a place to sleep until a ship arrives to take her home. Terla has no wish to return, however, and the endearing gardener gradually wins her heart, as does the island itself. When she discovers that the spells keeping the greenhouses running are failing one by one and the rare plants are dying, she decides to try to save them, even if it means breaking the law again. This time, she is not alone. With Florian’s help and that of an unusual desert rose, she attempts to uncover the secret of a long-dead wizard and begins casting spells once more to save the island, where she hopes to find her place in life. The Enchanted Greenhouse is a gentle story filled with magic, forgiveness and love.
