Description
This Czech-language children’s adventure novel follows Ella, who is forced to move with her parents to a remote town in the Czech-German borderlands. She misses the sound of trams and her friend, while the new town seems silent and lifeless, with faded inscriptions in a strange language on its buildings. Then she encounters a mysterious pale-skinned boy named Daniel, who has a secret plan and may need Ella’s help to carry it out. Told by two narrators, the story explores a budding friendship, the beauty of German and the experience of learning foreign languages, the importance of mutual understanding and enrichment across generations, and the search for an answer to where our souls belong.
