Description
Although family ties among noble families are complex, something exceptional happened with the Dietrichstein and Mensdorff-Pouilly families – both families became relatives of leading European royal families, first and foremost the Habsburgs and secondly the British. In the first case, the kinship was illegitimate, while in the second, it was legitimate. And since the Dietrichstein and Mensdorff-Pouilly families connected in 1857 and the Mensdorffs inherited the princely title and the name of the Dietrichsteins twelve years later, it is fitting to introduce both families together. It should be added that these are not the so-called post-Battle of White Mountain families, as the first arrived in the 16th century and the second only at the beginning of the 19th century.
