Description

This Czech-language educational text traces changes in moral and ethical thought in Western culture from antiquity to the present. It aims to help future teachers prevent moral dogmatism, moralizing and black-and-white views of the world, enabling them to better understand pupils at primary and secondary schools from different cultural, ideological and minority backgrounds. The author presents the views of philosophers while also examining the social contexts of individual periods, including the position of women, the body, sexuality and religion. Alongside male philosophers, the text introduces female authors and questions concerning women’s social status. It offers a selection of ethical theories chosen for their usefulness in teaching civics and the foundations of social sciences.
