Description
This Czech-language textbook examines sports nutrition in relation to training and competition, taking into account the duration, intensity, volume and frequency of physical activity. It presents nutrition as a combination of interaction, planning, manipulation and strategies aimed at optimizing health, recovery, adaptation and performance. The approaches and their combinations vary between sports and depend on each athlete’s individual goals and responses. Intended for performance-oriented adult athletes and coaches, the textbook is divided into five chapters. It introduces the general characteristics of sports nutrition and methods for identifying an athlete’s nutritional needs in relation to variable training loads. It then covers the nutritional requirements of sports training, including energy needs, macronutrient intake and hydration, as well as the principles of sports nutrition periodization. The final chapter summarizes nutritional recommendations for supporting athletic performance, including the characteristics of dietary supplements.
