Description
At a celebration marking the founding of the monastery at Zlatá Koruna, a singing contest takes place among the other entertainments, and the page Ota takes part. This time, however, artistic prestige is not the only issue, as tension between the Czech and Austrian nobility is apparent from the start. The minnesinger Tannhäuser also intervenes in the dispute over the winner, but his erotic poems do not please the representatives of the Church. Everything might have been resolved peacefully if the abbot of the French monastery of Vallée d’Orr, who brought the Cistercians here, had not been murdered during the night. King Přemysl Otakar II orders Oldřich of Chlum to find the murderer as quickly as possible without disrupting the celebration. Just as the first suspect begins to emerge, however, another murder takes place.
