Description
On the imperial road near the Landštejn gateway, a merchant expedition is ambushed and an Austrian nobleman is murdered. Adalrik of Sichelbach, commander of the castle garrison, tries to uncover the background to the crime. The clues appear to lead to nearby Hradec. Is it merely a random robbery, the kind that occurs daily in the deserted border forests, or is the murder connected with the explosive political situation on the troubled frontier, or perhaps with an even wider struggle for power? This historical novel, set in the first third of the thirteenth century, describes the circumstances surrounding the founding of Landštejn Castle.
