Description
The penultimate part of the entire saga depicts the years when the Czech king George of Poděbrady was at the height of his power. It was during this time that he managed to break the resistance of the neighboring lands of the Crown of Bohemia. However, the strengthening of the monarch's power, who bore the mark of a heretic in the eyes of the rest of Europe, meant an increase in pressure against him. And as had happened several times in the past, the Pope's politics managed to turn the Hungarian king against the Czech lands. Yet George of Poděbrady was not only a skilled warrior but also an exceptionally adept diplomat. Moreover, he had to constantly struggle with the domestic opposition of the Catholic-minded nobility and the claims of the Church. The sixth part of the epic ends with the death of George of Poděbrady. In the environment of struggle and intrigue, members of the second generation of the Prokop family gradually die, making way for their children and grandchildren. However, their world is no longer filled with the original ideals of the Hussite movement, but with a pragmatic struggle for property and status. In many cases, it is also an effort for simple human happiness. The narrative takes us once again to Prague, Písek, Plzeň, and other cities, but also to the Rosenberg and Poděbrady estates, to Upper Hungary, Rome, and along with the Czech king's envoy to other countries.
