Description
Oldřich of Chlum, along with his aides, squire Ota and the commander Diviš, finds himself this time in the rapidly developing upper town of Jihlava. There, he becomes embroiled in an investigation that seemingly makes no sense, as it begins not with a murder but with the theft of an ancient silver mask. It would certainly be just a remarkable relic from pagan times, if shortly thereafter an unknown man hadn't murdered the burgomaster's wife. As if that weren't enough, squire Ota gets involved with the niece of a powerful man, and Diviš allows himself to be imprisoned. On top of that, they all have to deal with the complicated workings of the local mint's accounts.
