Description
The third part of the four-part novel fresco about the lives of the last Přemyslid kings begins in the youth of Přemysl II. At that time, his father Václav I. realizes his political dream – to dominate the Austrian lands through the marriage of his firstborn son Vladislav. However, Vladislav dies, and Přemysl becomes the heir to the throne. To maintain the Austrian lands, young Přemysl must marry Markéta Babenberská, who is over thirty years older than him. However, the new Czech queen is at an age where she is unable to provide an heir for the lands. Therefore, he divorces her and marries the young Hungarian princess Kunhuta after defeating her grandfather, the Hungarian King Béla IV, in war. Přemysl II. becomes the uncrowned ruler of the lands north of the Alps, as he gradually takes control of Austria, Styria, Carinthia, and Cheb. Moreover, he has the long-desired heir – Václav. Přemysl is at the height of his power.
