Description
The third part begins with Charles's struggle for the crown of the Roman king after Louis the Bavarian, but also with the search for a new bride after the death of his beloved wife Blanka. Charles transforms into a decisive and ruthless ruler, willing to choose any path to achieve his goals. Prague becomes the center of the Roman Empire, reflecting the splendor that Charles bestows upon it, albeit at the cost of an expensive policy and concessions to the domestic nobility and the church. He must act similarly in the German lands. The novel concludes with the issuance of the Golden Bull for the empire, through which Charles consolidates his imperial power. His fate intertwines with the gradual decline of the power of the lords of Landštejn, as the aging William is unable to withstand the intrigues of all his noble relatives, and his sons are unable to help him...
