Description
It is the year 1417, and Hynek Tas of Bor has finally managed to persuade the king to release him from service. He receives as a reward the castle of Vlkov in South Bohemia, wedged between the estates of the king's age-old rivals – the Rožmberks. However, the peace Tas has longed for cannot be achieved with a powerful neighbor at his back, marauding bands, wandering preachers, and hordes of Hussites. Just like in the previous novel, the plot is full of tension and twists, betrayal, but also friendship. Tas, who is so stingy with any display of emotions, suddenly finds himself torn between his mistress Ulrika and his new wife Markéta of Blatce. Cold steel, frost, burning houses, hours in the saddle, howling wolves, and the foreboding of summer-long wars that will come with the arrival of the followers of the new teaching frame this novel's story.
