Description
This Czech-language historical mystery begins during an ostentatious celebration held at his castle by Jaroslav of Šternberk, when his beautiful niece Elška, wife of the burgrave of Veveří, disappears. The guests mock the incident because Elška is not considered a virtuous wife, but her husband Drslav seeks out Oldřich of Chlum and tearfully begs for help, convinced that she has been abducted rather than running away. Soon afterwards, a troubadour who courted Elška the previous evening is found murdered, and society blames Drslav. The case would seem to be an ordinary tale of revenge by a deceived husband, were it not for the evidence Oldřich of Chlum discovers among the troubadour’s belongings, suggesting an affair of the utmost mystery.
