Description
Marek of Erlach, a friend of Margrave Jan Jindřich of Luxembourg, finds a dying girl in a forest near Brno and her newborn wrapped in an expensive cloth bearing the symbol of the patrician Anshelm family. At the request of Margravine Markéta of Opava, he begins to discreetly investigate who the girl was and who is the father of the child. The trail leads to the prostitutes of Brno on Puhlík Hill, a breeding ground for crime, where pimps, thieves, and murderers hide, exploiting those poor women for their crimes. However, the girl was not a prostitute, and the father of the child is a prominent burgher of Brno. The scandal of the illegitimate child ignites a series of intrigues among the wealthy patricians and reveals the harsh realities in some seemingly orderly marriages...
