Description

It is the year 1266, and the Czech king Přemysl II. Otakar supports the weak emperor Richard of Cornwall. In return, he receives the office that manages the emperor's estate east of the Rhine, and soon after, with his silent consent, he seizes Cheb. The townspeople there disagree, but they lack the power to prevent it. Shortly thereafter, they produce a document stating that their city of Cheb lent a huge sum of money to the Czech king Václav I, which the Czech Kingdom still owes them. However, the royal treasury manager remembers that the debt was repaid and there is a corresponding document. But no one can find it, and soon someone murders the scribe. The Czech king chooses a solution he considers the most reasonable - he summons the castle manager of Bezděz, Oldřich of Chlum.
