Description
When young widow Elsie moves to the countryside estate of her late husband Rupert Bainbridge, she faces not only a cold reception from the servants and endless hours of loneliness but also a dark surprise. In the attic, she discovers strange wooden figurines known as silent companions. Soon, bizarre things begin to happen in the house – it doesn't take long before a series of unfortunate and inexplicable accidents start to overwhelm Elsie. Thus, Elsie struggles not only with the ghosts of her past but also with forces over which she is slowly but surely losing control. When she ends up mutilated in a mental institution after a horrific fire, she finally has the chance to tell her story – she has no other choice: either the truth or the gallows. Gradually, she reveals her tale to the understanding Dr. Shepherd, a story where human evil intertwines with the demons of ancient history. Will the doctor believe her story and save her from the noose?
