Description
This biography follows Otto Skorzeny, a Vienna student who longed for an extraordinary life and whose first scar came from a fraternity duel. His wish was fulfilled as an elite SS member, Hitler’s personal favourite and a specialist in the most secret operations, including the liberation of Mussolini, the abduction of Horthy’s son, attempts to assassinate Josip Broz Tito and the deployment of German troops in American uniforms during the Battle of the Bulge. Allied commander General Dwight D. Eisenhower called him the most dangerous man in Europe. Building on his earlier book I, Otto Skorzeny…!, Roman Cílek also presents the dramatic post-war period, when Skorzeny wove a dark web of neo-Nazi and anti-democratic intrigues in various parts of the world. During his lifetime, Skorzeny repeatedly became a legendary figure surrounded by mysteries. This compelling account looks beneath the surface of the legend at a man who placed his undeniable courage and intelligence in the service of evil, both during and after the war.
