Description
The Protectorate Studies consist of a total of thirteen chapters, covering the dark period and environment of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia (1939–1945). However, these studies are not so much about Nazi reprisals. This grim period also brought many tragically comical situations. Remarkable stories unfolded in the cultural sphere (especially in the film industry), leading to even ridiculous investigations of offenses (such as accidentally spitting in front of a German dignitary's car or beating carpets at an inappropriate time), which appear absurd against the overall grotesqueness of the regime. The Nazi regime, however, wanted to control every aspect of human behavior in detail – including sexual life (even that for a bribe). Some of these situations were already spreading in the form of anecdotes (often only orally transmitted), in which the Czechs have always been masters.
