If you wander through the Brdy forests, they seem endless. Just as endless is the number of legends and tales that have accompanied them from the times of trilobites to the present day. Various tribes lived here, and people adopted various professions as they utilized its wealth. Lantern bearers, spitters, tar workers, loggers, and others dealt with wood, while miners and metallurgists processed iron ore. Then soldiers invaded. They trained in shooting, built bunkers to create a defensive belt around Prague, guarded the European airspace from here, burrowed into the ground like moles, and raised rockets to the sky that towered over the treetops. They too wore various uniforms – Czechoslovak, German, Vlasov, SS, Soviet.
But the greatest secret of Brdy lay underground, behind several six-ton steel doors, and it was so classified that even the highest political and military leaders of our state were unaware of it. They were brought to us by trains covered with tarpaulins, a tarpaulin corridor protected them from unwanted eyes as the mysterious cargo moved into concrete hideouts in the dark of night, waiting for its opportunity.
There was so much of it that it could level all of Europe. And we walked and drove around, not even realizing what was hidden a few...
