The book is an authentic testimony of a person who spent nine months in the 1990s in a field uniform on the African continent in a country rarely visited by locals and long plagued by civil war – in Liberia. It is the story of a man who, as a military observer, a member of a five-person contingent of the Army of the Czech Republic under a UN mandate, monitored the post-war developments leading to a peaceful resolution of the conflict, which was concluded with presidential elections. The mission was certainly not a walk in the park. It is interwoven with both dramatic moments, especially during the disarmament of local fighters and long-distance transfers in inhospitable terrain, as well as pleasant moments, such as encounters with local children or resting on the shores of the ocean or spending time with colleagues from practically all over the world. The text is based on diary entries and is supplemented by more than a hundred unique photographs taken during the mission.
