Description
The publication addresses the crisis of rationality and the decline of leftist thinking at a time when the Czech political left has lost its representation in parliament, framing it with an analysis of civilizational changes and the risks of a multipolar world. Despite technological progress, the suggestibility of the population to various mystifications is increasing, as is the possibility of manipulation. The left must deal with the rise of social aggression and the phenomenon of post-truth rooted in the populism of oligarchs. The author finds that the left has particularly underdeveloped economic thinking, as well as insufficiently realistic climate and general ecological considerations. The book also offers some inspirations for modernizing the social agenda. Separate topics include an assessment of the attempt at a transformative course by Czech communists, the issue of reckoning with the past in the Czech Republic, and possible changes on the left's map in the 21st century. The inability to open up to broader leftist cooperation, fear of unconventional intellectual innovations, and conservative clinging to traditions of past centuries emerge as political foolishness. The publication aims to inspire the search for a synthesis of new historical experience and the creation of a new modernity, without which, according to the author, the left will remain trapped between the past and the future.
