Description
The Korean War represents a real hot phase of the beginning of the Cold War. It was, among other things, Stalin's attempt to expand Soviet influence in the Far East. However, the focus of the book is not only on reconstructing the course of wartime events on the Korean Peninsula but especially on analyzing the diplomatic contexts of this conflict. The accessibility of Soviet, North American, and partially Chinese documentation, such as extensive correspondence between Stalin and Mao Zedong, has allowed for a more detailed understanding of this still not very well-known chapter in the history of the Korean War. The publication also brings new insights into direct Soviet military participation, and it includes a chapter on forms of Czechoslovak assistance to the North Korean regime.
