Description
The book deals with the everyday life of Czechoslovak bombing crews (not only) in Great Britain from the establishment of the 311th Squadron until the end of the war. It does not forget the combat missions over occupied Europe or over seas and oceans; however, its focus lies more in discovering how pilots, navigators, and gunners lived, what they ate, how they spent their free time, and how much or how little the island kingdom meant to them. Their heroism, which was mostly so natural to them, collides here with fear and ultimately with death. The book shows that even in war, there is something like an ordinary day, and heroism does not always have to be spoken of loudly.
