Description
Among the soldiers of the 2nd Czechoslovak Independent Parachute Brigade, there were several dozen women, many of whom underwent parachute training. Several of them participated in the battles in the Carpathians in September 1944, the airlift to assist the Slovak National Uprising, and the fighting in the Low Tatras during the harsh winter of 1944 and 1945. Their courage, modesty, selflessness, and resilience should not be forgotten over time, especially since during World War II, the presence of a larger number of women among the paratroopers of regular units was a complete rarity, except for the Red Army. The book describes not only the activities of the female members against the backdrop of the history of the 2nd Czechoslovak Parabrigade but also includes their biographical profiles, richly illustrated mostly with previously unpublished photographs, reproductions of documents, and images of period artifacts. The authors also attempted to clarify many legends and explain some unresolved questions, often related to the fates of the entire parabrigade.
