This Czech-language novel tells the true story of Lara Taveirne’s youngest brother, Wolf, who leaves his student room at the age of eighteen and disappears. Six months later, his lifeless body is found in a forest in Lapland, with investigators discovering a diary beneath his clothes describing his final journey to see the northern lights. Ten years later, Lara opens the diary again and returns to her childhood in a warm family home, the turbulent months of Wolf’s disappearance and the even more turbulent years after his death. In doing so, she undertakes her own grieving journey, not in search of an explanation, but of points of light in the darkness. It is a true story and a trial by fire for an author who, like her younger brother, likes to be guided by her imagination, as well as a celebration of literature and the irresistible attraction of fiction.
