In a large dark house on a hill lives a lonely little girl. Her name is Eva, she is ten years old, and her only company is the housekeeper and the Finnish au pair Maja Salová. There is no trace of her parents. And Maja desperately needs the help of Pietro Gerber, the best hypnotist in Florence, a children's mesmerizer. Eva has not truly been alone for some time. She has an imaginary friend without a name and without a face. And it is possible that she is in danger because of him.

However, Pietro Gerber's reputation is in ruins, and in a way, he is a wreck himself. Confused and with uncertain prospects for the future, Pietro ultimately agrees, albeit with a thousand reservations, to meet Eva. Or rather, her imaginary friend. At that moment, invisible doors open before him. The voice of a lost little boy, who speaks through the hypnotized Eva, is not unfamiliar to him.

But above all, that voice knows Pietro.

It knows his past and seems to guard a long-hidden truth about something that happened one hot summer when he was a child. Because Pietro Gerber died at the age of eleven.

And the mysterious event that occurred after his death still torments him.
