Description
This Czech-language novel follows Sloane Parker, a librarian living an ordinary, contented life in an ordinary, contented town. She would never really describe herself as lonely, yet every day she looks forward to the moment when the gruff old Arthur McLachlan wanders among the bookshelves and treats her to a choice insult. Their banter is the best part of Sloane’s day, so when Arthur fails to appear one day, she becomes worried and goes to check on him. In an attempt to cheer up the sick old man, she spontaneously decides to start a private book club, bringing together a mismatched group of people who fit in nowhere else. The book club becomes a place where they unexpectedly find joy and friendship. Each of them discovers that their heart has been captured by a book in whose pages they can lose themselves, and where they may ultimately find themselves again.
