Description
Junkie is an autobiographical novel by American writer William S. Burroughs. It was first published in 1953 and is the very first book that Burroughs published.
Through it, the author attempts to capture his addiction to alcohol, heroin, morphine, and other drugs in the most precise and simplest words possible. It is a work that describes almost exclusively the author's relationship with drugs, their effects, the feelings of addiction, and the incidents associated with the pursuit of a drug fix. Burroughs strives to closely depict the junkie environment, the junkie society, and describes why it is so difficult to overcome addiction.
This book remains highly relevant, even though nearly half a century has passed since its creation.
