Not everyone is lucky enough to have their childhood dream fully realized. Jaroslav Fiedor wanted to fly or be a soldier since he was a child. He achieved both. He became a door gunner on a military helicopter. However, the path to his dream was not straightforward. After graduating from forestry school, he joined the basic military service with the paratroopers. He participated in a mission in Bosnia, which left a psychological mark on him. For a time, he became a gamekeeper. Ultimately, he returned to the army and flew on a mission to Kosovo. He subsequently succeeded in the selection process for the newly formed unit of door gunners, which changed his life. He went through three missions in Afghanistan, where he logged a record number of hours over enemy territory and found himself isolated from his own units on the border with Tajikistan. He completed training for conducting special operations and a survival instructor course in desert conditions. His experiences could fill three lives. He reached the pinnacle of his profession, but then followed a relatively steep decline. After twenty-one years in military uniform, he was forced to defend his honor and fight for his rights. This book tells not only of the fulfillment of a childhood dream but is also a story of perseverance, courage, and honor.
